Network Attached Storage Recovery

What is a NAS?

Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices have become a common part of the home and small business network. These devices provide a quick and easy way to increase storage space available to a single PC or the entire network without the need of a computer to share the attached storage. They plug into a free Ethernet port on your router, switch or PC. Some NAS devices have data capacity of three terabytes or more.

Having your storage capacity increased over what is available in your computer is great, but losing terabytes of data due to a power outage, a system failure or a virus attack would be devastating. Data Recovery Link has a full range of tools and techniques we utilize to recover the data from these devices.

Is my data recoverable from a NAS?

We get numerous questions from users of these devices about restoring their lost data. Answering this question is not an easy matter of using one tool or technique over the other. NAS devices often look similar or even exactly like their cousin the USB disk enclosure, they don’t function in the same way. A USB enclosure usually contains a single drive and a simple disk to USB controller board. NAS devices are much more complex, the often are comprised of RAID arrays to achieve their advertised capacities. RAID arrays are much more difficult to recover data from should anything happen to them.

Consider a 4 terabyte Seagate device, there are likely 3 or more separate hard drives contained within the enclosure. This device is controlled by Linux OS that runs inside of the box, and is used to create a software based RAID volume. In order to recover data from any NAS device you have to disassemble the device and find a way to connect all the hard drives from the NAS device directly to IDE or SATA ports inside your computer.  Or, you can let us connect the drives to our custom configured workstation designed to recover data from these devices quickly and completely.

Regardless of the brand of your NAS: Iomega, Buffalo Station, Western Digital, LaCie, Seagate, D-Link, Netgear, when you need data recovery in Denver or elsewhere we can recover your data! Our NAS recovery team is second to none.
